Armenian cuisine reflects both their own cultural culinary hertitage as well as cuisines from the Caucasus, Mediterranean, Middle East, Balkans, and Eastern Europe. Armenia is well known for its various soups, stews, breads, salads, and numerous small appetizer plates known as mezze. Meats, fish, and vegetables all play a large role in the diets of Armenians. Khorovats, or what you may know as kebabs, are skewered grilled meats mostly consisting of lamb or pork that are enjoyed either as home meals or as street food. Soups are extremly popular in Armenia. Popular main ingredients are lamb, chickpeas, and yogurt. Karshm is a hearty soup with walnuts, chickpeas, and beans.
