Puerto Rico - Puerto Rican Recipes
Puerto Rican cuisine has a unique blend of influences from mainly Spain,, Africa and the Amerindian Taínos. Although some of the more popular dishes share the same names as those found in other parts of Latin America, they have no resemblence except perhaps in how the dish is prepared or formed. Puerto Rican cuisine is a unique tasty blend of influences, using indigenous seasonings and ingredients.
The national dishes of Puerto Rico are Arroz con gandules (rice with pigeon peas) with pig roast, arroz con pollo (chicken with rice), Mofongo. Mofongo is generally made from fried green plantains, although fried yuca or breadfruit are possible, which is mashed together with broth, garlic, olive oil, and pork cracklings or bits of bacon.
