Singapore - Singaporean Recipes The cuisine of Singapore is very similar to its neighbor Malaysia, based on the influences of Chinese, Indonesian, Indian and even Western traditions, such as the British. Both countries practically share the same dishes although the methods of preparation and few ingredients may differ in some cases. Hints of Thai and Middle Eastern cuisines also exist in many of the local dishes. In Singapore's famous hawker center, where one can find numerous stalls hawking ridiculously cheat street food, ethnic Chinese chefs experiment to fuse both Chinese and Indian techniques and flavors into delicious savory and sweet treats. The national dishes of Singapore are chili crab, curry laksa, and Hainanese chicken. Chili crab is a sweet and savory dish that typically consists of mud crabs drenched with a thick tomato and chili-based sauce.
