Turkey - Turkish Recipes

Turkish cuisine reflects many of the best foods and ingredients found throughout the Eastern Mediterranean. Many countries in the area share the same foods due to historical power struggles where Turkey was often at the center or in between. Greek, Lebanese, Syrian, and Armenian cuisines greatly influenced the dishes served at Turkish tables to this day.

Like many other cuisines in and around the Mediterranean, Turkish dishes are full of flavor from the use of fresh vegetables, herbs, nuts, fruits, and spices. Such as eggplant, tomato, garlic, parsley, paprika, cumin, lemon, and apricot to name a few.

Meats such as lamb and beef are marinated and grilled over charcoal grills. These are known as kebabs and are quite popular as a street food in Turkey.Döner kebap, is tasty sandwich with grilled meat that resembles the widely known Gyros.

Baklava, one of the most popular desserts in Turkey, consists of phyllo (filo) pastry sheets filled with nuts and soaked in a simple sugar syrup.
